Scout Troop Update

Date: 24th Sep 2020 Author: NEIL WHITTINGTON

It has been an amazing term so far. One really important thing to us in the Scout Section is that the activities we do are youth led and so we started the term with a troop forum. This gives the Scouts the opportunity to talk through what they would like to do during the term and voice their views to the leaders. The Scouts decided they would like to work on the communicator badge, do some cooking, some origami and the digital maker badge.

So far this term we have already completed the My Faith badge with a visit from our Church Pastor, the Scouts learned about the Christian faith and Jesus. We do have a diverse number of faiths within the group and we believe it is important for the Scouts to learn about all faiths so they can make their own decisions. If you would like the opportunity to share more about a different faith with the Scouts, please get in contact.

We have also learned about the history of morse code and how to use it. This is as part of the communicator badge. I have set the Scouts a challenge to learn their name in morse code as part of the personal challenge award.

We also have lots coming up this term including the creative challenge where we will complete the origami that the Scouts have asked for, the Chef badge where we will think about camp menu’s, transporting and storing food on camp and we will also be making a sweet treat. Later in the term we will be looking at the digital maker badge, this will include making digital logos and working with websites. We plan to complete the entertainer badge where we will try and promote the Scout Group through video and if we have time, we will also work on the expedition challenge badge where we will make all the necessary plans to complete an expedition.

I pray the Scouts are enjoying what we are doing, I know it is not as fun as doing it Face-To-Face, but we are still working hard in the background to make something happen shortly.
